Basic Beliefs of the Disciples of Christ

The Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) is a mainline Protestant denomination that was born on American soil in the early 1800’s. We are a people who share some common ideas regarding the nature of faith life in community. A few of those shared ideas are:

The simple confession that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of the Living God, and accepting him as Lord and Savior, is sufficient for membership among Disciples.

The nonjudgmental acceptance of all people who wish to worship and share in the ministry of Jesus Christ.

The serious study of the Bible as our guide for faith and witness.

The weekly observance of the Lord’s Supper which is open to all believers in Jesus Christ regardless of their denominational affiliation.

The commitment to serving others through various avenues the church provides, financially as well as with our time and talents.

Celebrating diversity of beliefs within our community of faith.

Understanding that the Holy Spirit is the power that gives health, life and strength to the church.

Acknowledging that God alone has authority and responsibility for ultimate judgment upon a person’s life and faith.

Open Membership—At the conclusion of each Sunday’s worship, an invitation is extended to any who desire to unite with us.
